Begumpuri sarees are beautifully hand-woven by weavers and artisans from a small town of Begumpur, Hooghly district West Bengal. These easy-to-maintain cotton sarees do not require regular starching or ironing. Generally a weaver takes 2-5 days to prepare a Begumpuri saree.
Weavers use a pit loom or frame loom for weaving these sarees. Begumpuri sarees with dual colours, light-weight make are characterised by loosely woven coarse structure with a smooth feel and contrasting borders.
